GAC R&D Center
Founded in 2006, the GAC R&D Center is the heart of GAC Group’s innovation. This is where ideas take shape, from new vehicle concepts to breakthrough technologies, all designed to create smarter, safer, and more sustainable mobility.
Headquartered in Guangzhou, the R&D Center connects a global network with facilities in the United States, Shanghai, and Europe. It brings together top talent, leading suppliers, and research partners from around the world to accelerate progress.
Inside the center, world-class facilities support every stage of development. There are 15 specialized labs covering powertrains, new energy, and intelligent connected vehicles (ICV), along with a trial production plant that builds up to 800 sample cars each year. A dedicated test track ensures every vehicle is refined for performance and safety.
In 2022, GAC expanded further with the opening of the GAC Advanced Design Center in Milan, Italy. Led by renowned designer Stéphane Janin, this studio focuses on concept cars and pre-production models, bringing together creative talents from across Europe to shape the future of GAC’s global design.
Investment And Talents
A total of more than 30 billion yuan have been invested in independent research and development. Of the 4300 + employees of the GAC R&D CENTER, 92% hold a bachelor’s or higher degree, and 110 a PhD degree. Led by a top team of experts who are also outstanding talents in science and technology from China's automotive industry, and leading talents introduced by Guangdong province, an international R&D team with leading independent R&D efficiency has been set up. Members of the team come from dozens of countries including Germany, Italy, the United States, Japan, South Korea, etc.
GAC R&D CENTER engages in industry-university - research cooperation with prestigious universities and research institutions at home and abroad, such as Tsinghua University, Jilin University, South China University of Technology, Hunan University, Central Academy of Fine Arts, Art Center College of Design, China Automotive Technology & Research Center Co., Ltd., China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co. Ltd, etc. With dozens of ongoing projects, the Center attracts talents and innovation resources from around the world.
