GAC MOTOR ANNOUNCES RM 60 MILLION CKD PROJECT IN MALAYSIA

On May 11th, GAC MOTOR announced the launch of the CKD project in partnership with WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd (WTCA), the sole and exclusive distributor of GAC vehicles in Malaysia.

The project, which will receive an investment of over RM 60 million, is part of GAC MOTOR and WTCA’s long-term strategy to support and expand its presence in the Malaysian market.

Part of the investment will be used to upgrade production lines and facilities to commence the assembly of GAC vehicles in Malaysia – including the All New GS3 EMZOOM, which is set to roll off production lines as the first locally assembled GAC MOTOR model in April 2024.

Deepening Engagement in the Malaysian Market

Malaysia is a country of significance to GAC MOTOR’s strategic layout in the ASEAN market.

In December 2021, Malaysia became the first country to launch GS3, the first right-hand drive model from GAC MOTOR.

Over the next five years, GAC MOTOR plans to complete its product matrix of right-hand drive models in the country to meet the growing demands of Malaysian consumers with the support of WTCA. The auto brand also plans to open its first Malaysia flagship store in the third quarter of 2023.

“The successful launch of the CKD project will be an important milestone in GAC MOTOR’s internationalization process,” said Yu Jun, Vice President of GAC Group and Chairman of GAC International. “In order to support the achievement of this goal, GAC will also make efforts to coordinate internal and external resources of the group, increase support for the Malaysian market, accelerate the launch of key models, and improve the product line-up”, he added.

Exploring Car Rental Solutions

The day also saw WTCA handing over 25 units of GS3 models to Mayflower Car Rental for the latter’s All-New Adventure GAC MOTOR GS3 Program – a competitive car leasing program that aims to provide diverse, convenient, and reliable solutions for both locals and visitors. The fleet is the first batch from an order of 50 GS3 vehicles delivered to Mayflower Car Rental.

“We are committed to bringing the best and most competitive products to Malaysians and to establishing GAC MOTOR Malaysia as a prominent player in the automotive industry,” said Tan Keng Meng, CEO of Warisan TC Holdings Berhad, parent company of WTCA.
